Shipping Prices
Shipping prices can vary depending on several factors such as shipment type, current fuel prices, weight and size, distance of shipment, equipment type needed, and more. Below are some examples that you need to consider when considering shipping prices:

International & Overseas Shipping:
Shipping larger items overseas can have a large shipping price tag. There are 3 shipping methods that take place when you ship overseas or international.
  1. Shipping cost from the origin to the port that the shipment will sail from. For example, an RV in Texas needs to go to Australia. There will be a shipping price for shipping from Texas to the port via Ground shipping
  2. Port charges and shipping prices. Shipping overseas will have port charges and shipping cost from the port of origination to the port of destination. Example, Jacksonville port to Spain may cost $3,000-$25,000 depending on shipment type
  3. Shipping from destination port to your location.

Type of Shipment:
Whether you are shipping a car, a boat or a single pallet, the transport company/trucking company will need to know as much information about the shipment as possible to ensure they quote you the best shipping price possible. For the larger items, cars, boats, RV’s, and trailers, the carriers will either quote the shipping cost as a per mile rate or an all inclusive total amount. Either way, the professional transporters will give you a shipping price that will include any tolls, fuel surcharges, motels, etc.

Weight and Size:

Weight and size is one of the most important things to consider when calculating shipping price. The more the shipment weighs, the more the shipment will cost. This is because the shipment will take more fuel and time and result in more wear and tear on the transporting vehicle. Size is another factor to consider. The height cannot be over 13'6" or special permits and a pilot car are necessary to escort the transporting vehicle to ensure the vehicle doesn’t hit bridges or overpasses. The permits for oversize can be costly and they are state specific. All of these factors are consider when you are getting a shipping price.

Distance of Shipment:
Another important factor is the distance the shipment will be traveling. The longer the distance, the more it will cost. For example, a 25ft boat going 1500 miles may cost as much as $3,500 depending on other factors. Trucking companies most obey the laws set forth by the Department of Transportation. This includes the requirement to take a break after 14 hours. So factor this into the transit time and shipping price.

Equipment Needed:
Certain shipments may need special equipment. For example, a non-running car will need a winch to be loaded onto a trailer. Not all haulers / transport companies can handle that type of shipment. So when you are looking to ship something, have all the information about the shipment available for the carrier to provide you an accurate shipping price.

This list is not all inclusive of the possible variables that need to be considered when calculating a shipping price. You should find that most trucking/shipping providers calculate the base of shipping prices consistently; weight and size, shipment distance, equipment needed and fuel price.
